Exploring London

London is a unique and exciting place in which to study and live: it is a true world city. From its famous sights, landmarks, museums and theatres to designer fashion, restaurants, clubs and shopping, it is packed with interest and excitement.

Food

One of the benefits of living in London is that the cuisines of the world are on your doorstep. Over 25% of Londoners were born outside the UK and supermarkets, local shops and restaurants cater for the breadth of their tastes. Wherever you're from, whether it's China or Chile, Poland or Pakistan, Scotland or Slovakia, you'll find it's easy in London to find food from your home and to try cuisines from everywhere else too.

Shopping

London is world famous for its shopping. Experience Europe's busiest shopping street, Oxford Street, where you will find great British department stores such as Selfridges and John Lewis. Next door to Oxford Street you find Regent Street with its long-established British stores such as Liberty and Hamleys rubbing shoulders with the flagship branches of Apple, Allsaints and Burberry. Beyond Oxford and Regent Street you'll find fantastic shopping in Kensington and Chelsea, and massive malls at Stratford in the east and Shepherds Bush in the west of London. And of course a visit to Harrods in Knightsbridge is a must.

Weather

London's climate is moderate. Very hot and very cold weather are rarely experienced, but it is best if you bring clothing that is appropriate for a variety of conditions.

Since the weather can change rapidly in the UK, we suggest that you bring clothing for both warm and cool weather. The warmest months tend to be in July and August when average daytime temperatures are around 23 centigrade and average night-time temperatures are around 14 centigrade. The coldest months tend to be from December through to February when daytime temperatures reach around 8 centigrade on average and night-time when temperatures on average fall to 2 centigrade.
