The spring term is a busy time for Coventry University’s Recruitment Team. We have been out at schools and colleges talking to Year 12 students about their options after sixth form, delivering masterclasses on alternative careers ideas, attending school HE and careers fairs and hosting taster days on campus.
Take a look below at examples of some of the events we’ve been involved with over the last couple of months and get in touch with us at email@example.com if you would like to arrange a session for your students.
Year 12 Workshops and Presentations
This term the Recruitment Team has visited several schools and colleges to deliver presentations on progression to Higher Education. We have also represented the University at a number of HE Fairs and Sixth Form Open Evenings to encourage Year 11 students and their parents to think about options after Sixth Form.
We recently visited Aylesford School and Sixth Form College in Warwick to talk to their Year 12 students on a variety of university-related topics and then attended their Careers Fair later the same day.
For more information please see the Progression to Higher Education tab on this page.
On Campus School Visits
Sidney Stringer Academy
Year 9 female students from Sidney Stringer Academy visited campus in March to take part in an art installation project as part of MRes Design and Visual Art student Yiqing Yang's self-portrait exhibition. The students were asked to examine how they see themselves in order to help promote positive body image and reduce teenage anxieities about perfection.
North Oxfordshire Academy
Year 12 A Level and BTEC students attended a number of talks on campus in April and also took part in a campus tour. Feedback on the information provided on university life, finance and subject sessions was very positive with one teacher commenting, "The students left with many messages as you conveyed such good information. Many left really liking Coventry University. I think they left knowing that university is an option for them if they want it and that there is a lot of choice."
The Duston School
Students from Year 12 visted Coventry University to attend a talk on researching universities and on why HE should be an option for them. They also had an opportunity to take part in a campus tour to see an overview of the facilities available at Coventry. Both staff and students enjoyed their day with one student explaining, "It was easy to talk to those who were helping, and it was a relaxed student campus, which is what made us comfortable."
On Campus Teacher Events
Digital Media: Info and Skills Session
The Digital Media Team hosted a 'Digital Media: Info and Skills Session' for teachers on 14th March. The session, which was held here on campus, looked at how digital innovation is changing the way we consume, connect, collaborate and solve problems on a rapid scale. It was aimed at Media, Arts, IT, Maths and Sciences teachers who wanted to understand and engage with a rapidly evolving sector and gain an insight into our Digital Media BA. It was also a good opportunity to network with fellow teachers and academic staff from the University.
BTEC Teachers' Evening
This event, held in late March, was an opportunity for teachers and advisors to discover what the Engineering, Environment and Computing Faculty at Coventry University has to offer BTEC students, through a series of presentations, tours/demonstrations and Q&A sessions.
Lecturers provided information on the courses on offer and explained why we feel the Coventry teaching style suits those students studying a BTEC qualification who decide to progress on to Higher Education.
The Recruitment Team has been out on the road representing the University, meeting new faces and answering questions at UCAS Exhibitons over the last couple of months. There is still plenty of time to come and meet us at upcoming events in June - have a look at which ones we'll be attending, including the Birmingham NEC event on 12th and 13th June.
